Today, the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) raised concerns about two tech giants, Apple and Google. They say these companies might be stopping new ideas from improving the mobile internet. Here’s what this means:
- What Happened?
Apple doesn’t let other companies add features like faster page loading to their browsers (the tools we use to visit websites). This makes it hard for smaller companies to compete. - Why It Matters
If new ideas are blocked, we miss out on exciting improvements for our phones and the internet. It also makes choices fewer and could keep prices high. - What’s Next?
The CMA is looking into this and will share its final thoughts in March 2025. Their goal? Make things fairer for everyone who uses the internet on their phones.
